Terra thanks our Speaker, Nicole Holden of the Canadian Diabetes Association.
Nicole gave an informative talk on the issues surrounding diabetes in Canada.
We learned they are three types of Diabetes (Types I and II, and for some pregnant women Gestational diabetes.)
Nicole shared with us the role the CDA plays in Chatham-Kent with an Annual Expo in November, camps for kids, education, financial support and research.
The most startling and perhaps interesting part of Nicole's talk today is the impact diabetes has on the health care system and on us as individuals. Diabetes is the leading cause of heart disease, stroke and blindness. Recently, diabetes has been linked to certain forms of cancer. Ultimately this disease kills more Canadians than any other.
Research to discover a cure also uncovers better methods of treating, or living with the disease. This improves the quality of the 11,000,000 Canadians living with Diabetes or Pre-Diabetes. Early detection is important to controlling this disease and symptoms can go undetected or mislabeled as a result of aging. Get tested and support your Canadian Diabetes Association.
