Volume 21, Issue #38, October 13th, 2019
Oh goodness, it's already October, and Thanksgiving already! I feel like I'm slight bit behind because of my vacation. I will sadly note that the Rotary Club of Gros Islet (the area of St. Lucia I stayed in) met at a Sandals Golf & Country Club literally across from the driveway from my resort and we had a spa appointment. They met on the 1st & 3rd Tuesdays at 12:30pm and on the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays at 5pm. The 5th Tuesday, they did something special. Talk about an interesting meeting schedule eh?

Please e-mail President Kate DoForno if you're interested in attending! Our Board of Directors is happy to pay your registration fee. Danielle Hunter and Margaret Campbell are currently registered from our club.
DGN Brenda Tipton pictured with Rotarian John Schinkel, woke up at 3am on Tuesday morning to make the long journey to our Sunrise meeting.

Brenda is the current Membership Chair for the 2019-2020 Rotary year. She is famous for bringing in 22 new members as president as Livingston Sunrise. She shared a happy dollar with President Kate DoForno who was also sporting animal print.

Brenda spent the last 22 years working at AT&T Corporate, before her job in IT was outsourced to IBM, where she now works.

She joined Rotary in 2012, where before long (two weeks), she was named a club chair. During her time as President, she grew Livingston Sunrise to 60 members, with 12-13 different people providing sponsorship for new members.

There is a goal within our district to grow our membership from 1600 to 2020. Since the turn of the new Rotary year, July 1st, we have gained 30 new Rotarians.

At PETS (President Elect Training Symposium), Kate declared our Sunrise membership goal to be 5 members. Some of the tools that can be utilized include RI leads, youth exchange outbound parents and host families.

Our district has grown by three new groups since July 1st, including three satellite clubs in Michigan: Ann Arbor, Livingston Twilight (in Brighton), and M-36 (Livingston Sunset).

Brenda invites everyone to attend the joint District 6400 & 6380 Membership and Foundation Gala taking place in Plymouth, Michigan. New Rotary members attending can be inducted by RI trustee, Jennifer Jones. DG Sparky Leonard has arranged for a Canadian bus to travel to Plymouth!

The landscaping day at the Habitat for Humanity build site took place on Wednesday, October 9th. We had a low rate of volunteerism for this project. Ken Bechard graciously offered to volunteer for both shifts.
President Kate received some correspondence from the Chatham Goodfellows. There are hosting a dinner meeting on November 7th, at the Spirit of Life Centre. Two tickets were enclosed with the letter and were given to Mary-Fran Kluka. Ken & Sue Bechard also have available tickets due to their work with Scouts.
Rotarian Volunteers Doug Goldsmith, John Lawrence, Betty Manso, Linda Goldsmith, Kate DoForno & Roger McRae.

Be sure to check out the photos below of some of the unique displays at the 2019 Chatham-Kent & Lambton Children's Water Festival.

Happy Dollars

John Lawrence: Thank you for all of the assistance with the Children's Water Festival. He is currently on the road advertising the Clean Water for Living Summit. Just as a reminder, this is a public event, and you don't have to be a Rotarian to attend.

Ken Bechard: He and Sue transitioned their Sun Life Financial business last week. Michelle Hetherington & Sue merged their Sun Life contracts together creating Arrival Financial Solutions, and gave Ken his own off-shoot, Arrival Benefit Solutions.

John Schinkel: Had an update on former Rotarian Janet Newham's husband Randy. There is positive progress with his recovery in London. He is eating again, and he has been given his cell phone!

Danielle Hunter: I almost forgot about my own Happy Dollar! The Royalton St. Lucia was a wonderful resort and I highly recommend it :)

PDG Barry Fraser: He commended John Lawrence about his well-written letter about climate change to the editor in the April edition of The Rotarian.

Blake Vince: The harvest is imminent, but Blake is happy to see his Rotary friends again.

Sheila Bateman: Canada Post has free shipping on Tuesdays! Her son is Saskatchewan will be getting a care package, courtesy of this :)

Brenda "Woo Woo" Tipton drew her own ticket in 50/50. The second time this phenomenon has happened in at a Rotary meeting, no less than two meetings in a row! Brenda won $10.

PDG Barry Fraser was in attendance and was selling tickets to the Downtown Club's Annual Banquet coming up on November 2nd. We would love to get a table full of Sunrisers there! I know Audrey Chevalier and Sheila Bateman purchased tickets from Barry!
