Volume 21, Issue #19, May 19th, 2019
We are proud to have a strong history with the Interact Club at CKSS, which has been around since 2006. Just recently within the last year, the club has struggled with faculty leadership, having 4 teachers alone, change supervision of the club. Despite this obstacle, the club has thrived and shown resiliency with many fundraisers.

In October, with the assistance of Boston Pizza and Rotarian franchise holder, Mary Fran Kluka, students held a Pizza for Polio fundraiser. A single fingernail of each student was painted purple, to symbolize the tracking of the polio vaccine in the affected countries.

From October to November, students held a Book & Shoe Drive. Although they didn't have a great turnout, 2 homeroom classes donated over 200 books!

In December, the students participated in No Child Without A Christmas, where they raised $650, equivalent to 25 shoe boxes of gifts!

From April 8th-12th, the students participated in Interact Fundraising Week, with their campaign focused on "Be the G.O.A.T (Greatest of All Time)! Buy A Goat!). Through the WE day program, they purchased 15 goats, while their original goal was 10 goats ($500).

Some of the students upcoming events include fundraising for CKSS' breakfast program and the new animal shelter and hosting, an ice cream sundae fundraiser.

John Lawrence mentioned that he was invited to speak on a panel about Water at the Rotary International Convention in Hamburg, Germany coming up in June. He sent his regrets, but it's a great honour for a club!
President Kelley's swan song BBQ at her & Derek's house has been changed to Wednesday, June 26th, as Derek has to attend the John McGregor SS graduation.
Rotarian John Lawrence was nominated by the current Municipality of Chatham-Kent council to receive a 2019 Ontario Senior Volunteer award. Unfortunately due to a combination of cutbacks and/or restructuring by the province, this award will no longer be awarded. As a Rotary club, I still believe it's important to salute the hard work of one of our long term members. Cheers to you John!               (John & wife Lorna in June 2018; Photo credit courtesy of Linda Goldsmith)
